Emergency Procedures

All our staff receive regular training to ensure appropriate responses to emergencies or incidents.

In the event of a fire or other emergency, please follow the instructions of the nursing staff.

If you are not in your room, please report to a staff member closest to where you are.

Safety Concerns

If you have any concerns about your safety or welfare, please do not hesitate to speak to the staff caring for you. An important part of their role is to ensure you receive the answers and information you need for any questions or concerns you have.

Smoking

Patients are advised not to smoke. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hospital building. Please discuss your needs with the nurse caring for you.

Electrical Appliances

All electrical appliances, including computers, brought into the hospital must be checked before use. Please ask our nursing staff to arrange this.

Hot Water Bottles, Electric Blankets and Wheat Packs

The use of hot water bottles and electric blankets is not permitted under Ramsay Surgical Centre Glenferrie’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy due to the risk of rupture, scalding and electrical injury. Wheat packs are not permitted due to risk of fire when heated in a microwave.

Speak to your nurse if you need extra assistance to be comfortable.

Infection Control

Ramsay Surgical Centre Glenferrie has strict precautions in place to prevent the spread of infections or disease by patients, visitors and staff.
Our policies and procedures ensure that all our equipment is cleaned, sterilised and maintained according to Australian Standards and government guidelines.

In order to maximise your recovery and minimise the risk of infection you will experience the following processes in action:

• hand washing
• high standards of housekeeping
• the use of sterile techniques and equipment

Hand washing is a simple, but the most effective, way of breaking the chain of infection. It is important to wash your hands:

• after using the toilet
• before and after eating
• before and after touching your operation wound or dressing
• after using tissues, coughing or sneezing
• after touching body fluids or waste
• before using any drops, lotions or creams
• when leaving your room

Rooms are cleaned daily and after the discharge of a patient. If you have any concerns regarding the hygiene of your room, please speak to your nurse.
