‘Hospital at home’ - the new option for patients

Jul 01, 2020

Australians can now enjoy greater choice over their medical treatment options with Ramsay Connect providing hospital services in the comfort of the patient’s own home.

Ramsay Connect Chief Executive Officer Ian Galvin said the service provides a truly integrated healthcare experience, allowing people to access hospital care and rehabilitation services at home, where they feel most at ease.

“While patients are very grateful to be receiving high quality care at Ramsay hospitals, we know many are keen to return home as soon as possible,” Mr Galvin said.

“With these Ramsay Connect services in place, we are able to continue providing the high-quality healthcare services our patients expect, but in the comfort of their own home.”

Under the Ramsay Connect program, ‘care coordinators’ are the important link between the patient, doctors and Ramsay hospitals. They oversee the implementation of each patient’s individualised care plan so the team can deliver the highest quality care as part of the transition from hospital to the home.

Patients can receive treatments such as physiotherapy, nursing, personal care, and occupational therapy, and care coordinators can even help facilitate other services such as domestic cleaning or meal delivery, during the patient’s recovery and rehabilitation.

Mr Galvin said Ramsay Connect was already providing hospital at home services in the areas of palliative care, chronic disease, maternity, cancer care and mental health management programs.

“In the current COVID-19 environment, as well as looking to the future, it is very important that we are able to offer patients a range of options for how they receive their care,” Mr Galvin said.

Ramsay Health Care CEO Danny Sims said Ramsay Connect sets a new benchmark in patient care.

“We need healthcare that can be flexibly integrated into people’s lives, particularly where they are living independently and want access to suitable and effective clinical care in a setting of their choice,” Mr Sims said.

“We look forward to expanding our services beyond the hospital walls. In our view, patient-centred integrated care is the way forward, not managed care.”
